It may be hard to tell if your piano is out of tune, especially if you play your piano often. This is because you get used to your piano sound as it continues to go out of tune. There are a couple of ways to check and see if your piano is out of tune. First, I would play individual notes in the middle of the piano and listen to see if you hear that they are harsh or wobbly. Secondly, you can play octaves, and if they don't sound clear and even, they are out of tune. However, your piano can go out of tune evenly, meaning every note is going out of tune at the same speed and rate. This will cause your piano to sound in tune but be out of tune. This is why it is recommended to get your piano tuned once per year, even if you don't notice that it is out of tune. For most people, when they can hear that their piano is out of tune, it is far out of tune, and that will take multiple tuning appointments to get it back up to pitch. Also, getting your piano tuned once per year will keep it in better condition. This is because the piano strings won't have to be adjusted so far at the tuning appointment, and the technician will be able to address any other issues with your piano. This will keep your piano in pristine condition.
