Piano Tuning
Piano tuning is adjusting the tension of the piano strings so the intervals between the notes are in tune. Shifting weather and the 18 tons of pressure the piano strings exert are why pianos go out of tune. When the temperature changes in the spring/summer and gets humid the piano expands forcing pressure against the strings and pushing it out of tune. Then it gets colder in the fall/winter, and the piano shrinks again, making it out of tune. Pianos that are extremely far out of tune(10+ cents flat or sharp) won't be able to be put in tune in one appointment. This will require multiple tunings, raising the pitch every time so that it'll stay in tune better. If 10 + cents flat it will require 2 tunings to stay properly in tune. For pianos that are 50+ cents flat, it'll take three tuning to stay properly in tune. The second appointment will be ≈ 3 weeks after the first appointment, allowing the piano to settle into the added pressure. If your piano requires multiple tuning appointments it is $160 for each appointment. I'll let you know at the appointment how many tunings it'll take to get your piano to stay in tune. Getting your piano tuned yearly will help it stay more in tune and make tuning it easier. It'll also help keep your piano in better condition as the technician will be able to address any issues that come up from year to year. It is only $160 for one piano tuning for pianos that are tuned annually.
